Federal officers policing Tijuana

TIJUANA, Mexico, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Mexico is sending hundreds of federal preventive police officials to Tijuana after attacks against state and federal law enforcement officials.

Rodolfo Cruz Lopez, who oversees the federal preventive police force, said 150 officers arrived Tuesday and 350 more were on the way, the San Diego Union-Tribune said Wednesday.

Lopez said two attacks Monday that left an officer and a civilian dead may be in reaction to the detention of alleged kidnappers suspected ties to Arellano Felix drug cartel.

Monday's attacks came just days after the slaying of a state preventive officer in front of his house in Tijuana.
