House passes temporary funding

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a measure to keep the federal government funded through Nov. 16.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Wednesday in a statement, "This continuing resolution keeps the government fully functioning at the current levels while we complete the appropriations process in a fiscally responsible way.”

President George Bush previously urged congressional action on either passing appropriation bills for the 2008 fiscal year, which begins Monday, or taking up continuing resolutions. He hinted of a government shut down if action wasn't taken on the budget bills.
