PEMBROKE PINES, Fla., Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Florida's Democratic party says it may sue if the national party ignores the results of its state primary Jan. 29.
The National Democratic Party has threatened not to seat Florida's 210 delegates at its convention next summer unless Florida delays its primary a week so New Hampshire, Iowa, Nevada and South Carolina can pick their nominees for president, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Monday.
Denying those delegates could force a lawsuit in which the Florida party would contend that "four rogue states" conspired to violate the civil rights on minorities by convincing the national party to ignore Florida's primary results, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
The suit would contend the national party violated the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965, said Steve Geller, the Florida Senate's Democratic leader.
