Bike Path Killer suspected in teen's death

BUFFALO, N.Y., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- The 1985 slaying of a New York state teenager has been linked to the man known as the Bike Path Killer.

The killer of Katherine Herold, 15, used a garrote to subdue and then kill her near the American Brass plant in Town of Tonawanda New York, The Buffalo (N.Y.) News reported Sunday.

Those facts make her killing similar to killings and rapes committed by Altemio Sanchez, a machinist at American Brass who was identified last year at the Bike Path Killer.

Brian Moline, an officer responsible for investigating cold cases in Town of Tonawanda, has been in communication with the task force that apprehended Sanchez, the newspaper said. Task force members have said the case is promising, but needs physical evidence to be strong.

Sanchez pleaded guilty in May to three Buffalo Bike Path killings, and was sentenced to 75 years to life in prison, the TV program, "America's Most Wanted," said.
