BAGHDAD, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Insurgents used a car bomb and mortar shells Tuesday to bombard the area around Baghdad's central morgue, killing at least seven people.
Iraqi Interior Ministry officials said at least 23 other people were injured in the attack, whose victims were mostly family members waiting to identify relatives in the morgue, a BBC correspondent reported.
The mortar shells hit seconds after the car bomb exploded, witnesses said.
Two separate car bomb blasts in eastern Baghdad killed five civilians and wounded 14 others, CNN reported.
An Iraqi police patrol was also struck by a car bomber in southeastern Baghdad. One officer was killed and three others were injured.
In a statement, the U.S. military said troops killed three suspected al-Qaida militants in Arab Jabour, west of Baghdad.
