Bush book author reject inaccuracy claims

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Author Robert Draper has denied allegations his book on U.S. President George Bush is inaccurate, calling his work an honest portrait of the world leader.

Draper denied he used his political connections in Texas to garner a rare interview with the president, instead saying Bush had liked an article he had written on him for GQ magazine, the Houston Chronicle said Sunday.

"It wasn't handed to me on a silver platter," Draper said of the presidential interview.

"I didn't have a track record of being a Bush basher. Instead, I had something of a track record as a guy who understood him. I certainly never made any promises that I would be writing a 160,000-word press release."

The Chronicle said Draper's book, "Dead Certain," does not appear to condemn the president or his administration, but instead portrays Bush as an ordinary man facing extraordinary circumstances.

Draper even uses terms such as the "sonic force of his presence" to describe Bush, along with adorning the U.S. leader with labels such as "The Boss" and "The Decider."
