MIAMI, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A man suspected of killing one South Florida police officer and injuring three others was killed by police after a lengthy chase.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez said that police cornered suspect Shawn Sherwin LaBeet in a condo complex north of Miami and killed him during an exchange of gunfire, The Miami Herald reported Friday.

Police Director Robert Parker said LaBeet was "armed with a loaded weapon and had additional ammunition" and wearing body armor when he was killed.

''He had the mindset of surviving a confrontation with law enforcement officers,'' Parker said the Herald article.

Police said LaBeet was pulled over Thursday in the Miami suburb community of Leisure City for driving erratically. He allegedly opened fire on the four officers before fleeing.
