ST. GEORGE, Utah, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A woman, who claims the head of a U.S. polygamous sect coerced her into marital sex at a young age, testified she was taught as a child to obey church leaders.

The woman, identified only as Jane Doe, testified at the trial of Warren Jeffs, so-called prophet of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, that the absolute obedience she was forced to give Jeffs led to her consummated marriage to her first cousin when she was 14-years-old, the Arizona Republic reported Friday.

Jeffs is being tried in Utah's 5th District Court on charges of rape as an accomplice for his role in the 2001 marriage.

"The prophet was God to us," Doe said. "He was God on Earth," and church members were to obey his word "as though we were led by a hair."

The woman, who is now 21, said she was taught that her husband must be obeyed.

"I was to obey him without question, as I would the prophet."

She said she was taught that refusing sex would lead to her losing her family and not being allowed into heaven after death.
