Bhutto to return to Pakistan in October

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto plans to return to Pakistan on Oct. 18 to “bring back true democracy,” a leader of her party said Friday.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim, vice president of the Pakistan People‘s Party, urged supporters to turn out to greet her when she arrives in Karachi, the BBC reported.

Her admirers responded with cries of "Long Live Benazir! Prime Minister Benazir!"

Bhutto and President Pervez Musharraf have failed to negotiate a deal that would free her from corruption charges in Pakistan. She has said that an alliance would require Musharraf to give up his more powerful post as chief of the army in order to run for another term as president.

On Monday, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Pakistan and was immediately deported back to Saudi Arabia. Many of his followers, who had assembled to greet him, were arrested.
