BAGHDAD, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- A car bomb east of Baghdad killed five Iraqis while a pro-government tribal chief was assassinated outside his home in the city of Al-Ramadi.
A security source said the car bomb detonated Thursday as an Iraqi police patrol was passing through the Al-Talibiya area east of the Iraqi capital, the Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, reported Thursday.
Ten additional Iraqis were injured by the blast and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, other security sources said Sheikh Abdul Sattar Abu Risha, who had participated in an armed campaign against al-Qaida allied militants in Al-Anbar province, was killed by a bomb attack outside his house Thursday.
Abu Risha had led the Council for Salvation of Iraq, an armed group organized to combat al-Qaida in the province.
