Dogs with severe burns found in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Animal control officials in Georgia say they're concerned about the number of stray dogs they are finding with burns along their back.

An office manager for PAWS Atlanta said the burns, which are about three to four inches wide, typically stretch from the dog's head down its back, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said Thursday.

Animal control officials in three metro Atlanta counties say they've seen at least six dogs with similar burns in the past month.

Most of the dogs are from Clayton County, but officials have found other burned dogs in DeKalb and Henry counties. The burns appear to be from some sort of acid or lighter fluid. One dog was so badly injured it had to be euthanized, the newspaper said.
