BOSTON, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Six years after the terror attacks on New York and Washington, some victims' families have reopened graves multiple times as new remains are identified.
Among them is Cynthia McGinty, of Foxborough, Mass., who told the Boston Globe she was given small fragments of remains of her husband, Michael McGinty, and there was a burial and funeral service. A year later, she had three calls about additional remains, the report said.
"How many times are you going to bury somebody?" McGinty said.
McGinty said she had the additional remains cremated and sprinkled at his grave along with a service.
Ellen Borakove, spokeswoman for the New York medical examiner's office, told the Globe technicians have nearly nine times the number of body parts than there were victims -- 22,000 parts for the 2,750 people killed when the twin towers of the World Trade Center collapsed after hijacked aircraft flew into them.
The report said fragments of about 59 percent of the victims had been identified and the work continued.
