MANCHESTER, England, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Police are questioning a British man arrested on suspicion of being a member of al-Qaida.
Rangzieb Ahmed, 32, was returning to Britain after a yearlong detention in Pakistan when he was arrested by authorities at Heathrow Airport Friday, The (London) Sun reported.
Ahmed, who was arrested in Pakistan when he traveled there to visit relatives, was never charged with a crime and eventually was ordered released by the country’s supreme court.
A spokesman for British police said Ahmed was arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000 in connection with a continuing investigation, the newspaper said.
Human Rights Watch said Ahmed claims he was tortured by officers from Pakistan, Britain and the United States while he was detained.
