HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- President George Bush Saturday met with wounded U.S. veterans in Hawaii, during a stopover on his return to Washington from an economic summit in Australia.

As Air Force One landed at Hickam Air Force Base, the president was greeted by a delegation that included Adm. Tim Keating, commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, and Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle.

On the final day of the U.S. delegation’s stay at the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, U.S. officials briefed reporters on meetings the president held in Sydney, Australia, with other world leaders.

Jim Jeffrey of the National Security Council said Bush, in a meeting with Australian Prime Minister John Howard and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, reviewed a range of issues, including climate change and the status of the six-party talks on North Korea’s nuclear program.

The president is to return to Washington Sunday.
