Report: U.S. planes vulnerable to attack 

WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. passenger planes remain vulnerable to attack because of ineffective cargo screening, a federal report said.

The Transportation Security Administration's current screening method "increases the opportunities (for) explosives, incendiaries and other dangerous devices" to end up on passenger aircraft, said Richard Skinner, inspector general for the Homeland Security Department.

The report recommends more inspectors, a better database to track violations and clearer regulations for screening cargo, USA Today reported Friday.

U.S. passenger planes carry 7,500 tons of commercial cargo along with luggage under passenger cabins, USA Today reported. TSA officials largely agreed with the report and said improvements will continue to be made.
