Postman admits hiding thousands of letters

LONDON, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- A British postman hid thousands of letters and parcels in his apartment, so many that they filled a large truck when they were removed.

Adam Moore pleaded guilty in Liverpool Crown Court, The Liverpool Echo reported. Investigators said the floor in his apartment was covered with stolen mail, and there was even more under his bed and in his car.

"The defendant came to our attention because there were complaints about a significant amount of delayed mail,” said prosecutor Andrea Fitzgerald. "A search of his flat found so much mail that it was impossible to walk on the carpet and in some places the mail was piled 10 to 12 centimeters (about 4 inches) deep.”

Moore admitted concealing more than 16,000 pieces of mail and opening more than 1,500 looking for cash. He said he stole 500 pounds ($1,000) while working in the main post office in Liverpool.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in October.
