STUTTGART, Germany, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- A stakeout of Internet cafes in Stuttgart led to the arrest of three men accused in bomb plots against U.S. military bases in Germany.
Police put several dozen Internet cafes under surveillance after intercepting communications that led U.S. intelligence officials to believe Islamic militants in Germany were contacting counterparts in Pakistan, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.
The stakeouts paid off when police spotted Fritz Gelowicz, 28, an Islamic convert who allegedly learned bomb-making at an al-Qaida-linked training camp in Pakistan last year, the Times reported.
Gelowicz and two other men arrested this week are accused of plotting to kill Americans at or near military bases and airports in Germany. Police continued Thursday to seek at least seven other suspects, including several who are believed to have fled Germany.
