TEHRAN, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- The president of Iran will play host to Palestinian factional leaders in Tehran for a discussion of the Fatah-Hamas conflict.

The Jerusalem Post reported Wednesday that a newspaper in the United Arab Emirates named those expected to attend the Thursday talks with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Those on the list include Khaled Mashall, the Hamas leader Damascus, Syria; Nayef Hawatmeh, leader of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine; Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shalah; and Ahmed Jibril, leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command.

"The Palestinian problem is still a gaping wound for the entire Islamic world and nations of the region," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by Iran's Mehr news agency. "The only way to treat it is through the resistance of the Palestinian nation, along with faith, unity and an unwavering stance."

Farouk Kadoumi, an exiled Fatah leader and adversary of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, also is expected to attend the session.
