BANGKOK, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Arrest warrants alleging stock trading violations were issued in Bangkok Monday for deposed Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife.

Thai criminal court documents charge Thaksin and his wife, Khunying Potjaman, concealed assets through the SC Asset Co., Ltd., the Bangkok Post reported.

Warrants were issued for the couple last month as well, charging them with corruption in a land sale. They have been living overseas since Thaksin was deposed a year ago in a bloodless coup.

Thai authorities said they sought the warrants becauseThaksin and his wife have twice failed to appear in a Bangkok court.

The two have denied the charges and their attorney told the newspaper they would not return to Thailand until "a newly-elected government is in place.”
