AUBURN, Calif., Sept. 2 (UPI) -- A clerk at a convenience store in California is due to be arraigned this week after he allegedly stole a customer’s winning lottery ticket.

Rajinder Kaur, 40, was arrested Aug. 21 on suspicion of grand theft, after a customer began to suspect that Kaur had taken his lottery ticket, worth $555,000, and pocketed it for himself, The Sacramento Bee reported.

Kaur reportedly told the customer he had won only $4. But the customer later saw the winning numbers on news reports and recognized them as the ones he had chosen.

Kaur will be arraigned Tuesday in Placer County Superior Court, the newspaper said.
