Suspect in six killings caught

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y., Aug. 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marshals Service has announced the arrest in Shirley, N.Y., of a man sought in six killings in Texas and Pennsylvania.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office in Texas said Paul Devoe III, 43, has been charged in one of the killings and is being held in lieu of $2 million bond, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

Devoe had been sought in the Friday night slaying of a bartender in Marble Falls, Texas, and investigators discovered Sunday four bodies in a house in nearby Jonestown.

A sixth possible killing was added to the list Monday, when the body of the woman who owned the car Devoe was driving was discovered.

Tom Smith, supervisor of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, a law enforcement group sponsored by the Marshals Service, said Devoe had been tracked to Long Island, and officers staked out the house of a friend and former co-worker of his.

"He was already in that residence," Smith said. "They were going to knock when they saw him with a gun. He bolted, and they called for a SWAT team, but they were able to talk him out."
