FENTON, Mich., Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Fenton, Mich., northwest of Detroit, was still littered with debris and without power Saturday, hours after a tornado crossed the town.

Heavy weather swept across southern Michigan Friday with high winds and heavy rain, The Detroit Free Press reported. At least four tornadoes were confirmed.

Lt. Gov. John Cherry, who visited Fenton, said that just getting to the town Saturday afternoon was difficult.

"You can get in but it's slow going," Cherry said. "It's amazing, given the extent of the damage, that there were no deaths."

At least two houses were destroyed and 200 heavily damaged.

In the Detroit area, about 50,000 homes and businesses remained without power Saturday. DTE Energy said most would get their electricity back by the end of the weekend.

The tornado that hit Fenton formed about 20 miles to the west in Cohoctah Township, said Cory Behnke, a National Weather Service meteorologist. The tornado left a trail of destruction about one-quarter of a mile wide.
