Japan executes 3 death row inmates

TOKYO, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Japan’s Justice Ministry officials said Thursday three inmates on death row were executed, Mainichi Daily News reported.

Two of the executions took place at a Tokyo detention center while the third was at a Nagoya detention center, the report said quoting sources, adding all three men were in their 60s. All the deaths were by hanging.

All three prisoners had been convicted of multiple killings.

The total number of executions since September of last year now stands at 10. There are 103 convicts on death row in Japan, Mainichi reported.
