CHICAGO, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Storm-related flooding woes in the U.S. Midwest got no relief Wednesday from a forecast that predicted rain through the weekend.
More than 20 people have been killed in flood-related incidents from the upper Mississippi all the way south to Texas, The New York Times News Service reported Wednesday.
Chris Gitro of the National Weather Service in Chicago office told USA Today as much as 4 more inches of rain are forecast for the entire region until a front moves in from Canada on the weekend.
In storms last weekend, at least six people died in Oklahoma, eight others died in Texas and six were killed in Minnesota.
On Tuesday, rescuers used boats and all-terrain vehicles to rescue about 40 people stranded on Interstate 75 near Bluffton, Ohio. About 15 miles of the flooded highway was closed for several hours, USA Today reported.
Forecasters said the weather activity is unrelated with Hurricane Dean, which was sweeping across northern Mexico on Wednesday.
