LAGUNA HILLS, Calif., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- An elderly woman with diabetes was found unconscious after being locked for six hours in a California bank after the employees closed up and went home.
Marian Prescher of Laguna Woods went to the Bank of America late Wednesday afternoon to inspect the contents of her safety deposit box in a private room, but the bank closed and employees left, apparently forgetting she was still inside.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino told the Los Angeles Times the cleaning crew that found the 73-year-old woman “unconscious and cold to the touch.” She was rushed to the hospital where she was then treated for diabetic shock. Her blood sugar levels were at a critical level of 20; normal is about 100.
"The good thing is that she's OK," Amormino told the Times. "If they hadn't found her until they opened up the bank, she might have died."
The Bank of America issued a statement, noting it was looking into the matter.
