CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- At least four crude bombs in plastic beverage bottles went off Friday in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The first blast was at a CD store, and the second at a gas station. In mid-afternoon, a bottle bomb left in a bag went off on a bus seat, injuring a cleaner at the Bus Exchange, The New Zealand Herald reported.
The Bus Exchange was evacuated, inconveniencing hundreds of people.
A suspected fourth explosion went off a few minutes later.
Detective Sgt. Mark Reid urged the public to be alert and cautious.
"What caused the explosions is not yet known,” he said. “However they do not have a large range and people should not be too concerned. However if they see any such item they should stay away, not approach it but call police immediately."
Investigators said two people were seen in the area of one of the explosions.
Christchurch is the largest city on New Zealand's South Island.
