Death toll rises in Pakistan clashes

MIRAMSHAH , Pakistan, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- A Pakistani official said at least 15 militants and seven Pakistani soldiers were killed in the most recent clashes along the Afghan border.

Waheed Arshad, a spokesman for the Pakistani military, said the death toll from Thursday clashes in the area surrounding the city of Miramshah has risen to 22, KUNA, the Kuwait News Agency, reported Friday. He said 12 other militants were injured in the gun battles.

Arshad said three Pakistani soldiers were killed Thursday and four others died Friday in a hospital.

Meanwhile, Arshad said, two militants were killed after they opened fire Friday near a checkpoint in Mir Ali village.
