BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Argentine first lady Christina Fernandez de Kirchner chose a running mate for October's presidential election.

Rounding out Kirchner’s ticket is Gov. Julio Cobos from Mendoza Province, La Nacion newspaper reported online.

Kirchner is leading all candidates in the opinion polls, however, a number of political scandals in recent months could cut into her lead in the coming months, warn analysts.

The first lady’s husband, President Nestor Kirchner, has decided to not run for a second four-year term.
