Parr executed in Texas for 1998 murder

HUNTSVILLE , Texas, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Texas Wednesday executed a man convicted of raping and shooting a mother to death while her two young children clutched her hand and lay beside her in bed.

Kenneth Parr, 27, died of a lethal injection administered as his mother and brother watched and cried, The Huntsville (Texas) Item reported Thursday.

Parr was convicted, along with his brother, Michael Jiminez, of the 1998 slaying of Linda Malek.

Jiminez and Parr both confessed to robbing Malek's house, but only Jiminez said they both shot the Bay City woman.

Jiminez also told police he and Parr intended to kill her children -- 8-year-old Ashley and 6-year-old Zachary -- but their pistol malfunctioned, sparing the little ones' lives.

Parr was convicted in April 1999 of capital murder.

Jiminez also was convicted of murder, but because he was 17 at the time of the crime, he was not eligible for the death penalty and is now serving a life sentence.

Parr was the 20th condemned prisoner to be executed this year in Texas.
