Pipe bomb case connected to FBI search

TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- FBI investigators searched a home in Tampa, Fla., this weekend in relation to two students arrested for allegedly possessing a pipe bomb.

The Tampa Tribune said Sunday the FBI's search was connected to the arrest of two University of South Florida students in South Carolina, but authorities would not specify how the house was connected to that pipe bomb case.

Council on American-Islamic Relations official Ahmed Bedier said he had found out the home's owners have been renting to college students while attempting to sell the house.

Bedier also learned a friend of one of the imprisoned students, who were arrested Aug. 4, is living at the home.

South Carolina authorities arrested Ahmed Mohamed and Youssef Megahed after a routine traffic stop when a pipe bomb allegedly was found inside their car.

Mohamed has testified in court that the pair had been carrying fireworks at the time of their arrest, the Tribune reported.
