Ousted minister seeks return to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Corruption charges against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif may be reconsidered in Pakistan even as he seeks to return from exile in London.

Federal prosecutors want the Accountability Court of Rawalpindi to reconsider three cases against Sharif, who fled Pakistan with his brother, Shahbaz Sharif, seven years ago after a coup by now President Pervez Musharraf, Press Trust of India reported Saturday.

No details were given about the cases except their names: the Hudaybia Paper Mills case, the Raiwind Property case and the Ittefaq Foundry case.

The Sharif brothers, in an Aug. 16 hearing, are to petition the Pakistani Supreme Court to allow them back into the country. Nawaz Sharif, traveling in Dubai, told Geo TV he had no comment except that Pakistan would soon hear good news from him, Press Trust reported.
