Bush sees progress in Iraq

WASHIGTON, D.C., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush disagreed Thursday with the opinion the Iraq government is making no progress.

In his first news conference since July 12, Bush said it has been interesting to watch leaders learning to become leaders and cautioned all factions within Iraq must learn to trust each. He said the wait will be worth it.

Bush told White House reporters the Iraqi government’s expertise in spending money has improved – both on the national and provincial levels.

“If one were to look hard one could find indications the government is learning how to function,” the president said.

Bush said the national government has managed to set up an oil revenue-sharing system.
