Russian hostages freed in Nigeria

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Six employees of a Russian aluminum company were released Tuesday in Nigeria after six months as hostages.

The group, all Russian nationals, were freed in Port Harcourt, Itar-Tass reported. Journalists were present at the handover.

RUSAL bought a controlling interest last year in the state-owned Aluminium Smelter Co. of Nigeria.

The six hostages were abducted from their guarded living quarters and their houses blown up.
