New al-Qaida video targets embassies

ATLANTA, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- A California man turned al-Qaida terrorist claims in a new video that the group has targeted U.S. embassies and sites within the United States.

"We shall continue to target you at home and abroad just as you target us at home and abroad," Adam Yahiye Gadahn, also known as Azzam the American, says on the hour-long video obtained by a Web site that analyzes terrorism, CNN reported Sunday.

Gadahn, who is on the FBI's most wanted list, grew up in rural California, became a Muslim in the mid-1990s and moved to Pakistan, where he joined al-Qaida.

Gadahn has appeared in at least seven al-Qaida-produced videos, including one in late May, in which he speaks English and praises al-Qaida's operations.

"With this message he is serving as an al-Qaida propaganda tool and the terror group's mouthpiece and instigator," said Octavia Nasr, CNN's senior editor for Arab affairs.
