WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Amtrak canceled service between Eugene, Ore., and Vancouver, Canada, this weekend after cracks were found in the suspension of a rail car.
The U.S. national passenger rail corporation hopes to restore some service on Monday, The Oregonian reported Saturday.
The car was manufactured by the Spanish company, Talgo Inc.
Amtrak called passengers to alert them to the canceled service and offered refunds. Some passengers who showed up for their trains traveled on buses provided by Amtrak.
Amtrak uses rail cars manufactured by Talgo mainly in the Pacific Northwest.
"All the parties involved decided that, in an abundance of caution, it was the most prudent thing to do to take the cars out of service," said Nora Friend, a Talgo spokeswoman.
