Suspect burned in terror attack dies

GLASGOW, Scotland, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- The man burned during an alleged terrorist attack on Glasgow Airport in Scotland died Thursday, a month after he was pulled from a burning SUV.

Kafeel Ahmed was being treated at Royal Glasgow Infirmary. Strathclyde police confirmed his death, The Herald of Glasgow reported.

"The man died earlier this evening and the circumstances surrounding the death have been reported to the procurator-fiscal," a police statement said.

His death came a few days after reports that the hospital was trying to keep him alive as long as possible because British intelligence agencies feared a backlash in the Muslim community. Ahmed had been unconscious throughout his hospitalization, and doctors reportedly gave him no chance of survival.

Ahmed, a native of Bangalore, India, was described in early reports as a doctor but was actually an engineer and designer, the BBC said. His companion at the airport, who is under arrest, was Dr. Bilal Talal Samad Abdullah, a native of Iraq. Ahmed's brother is also in custody.
