Mother kills children in murder-suicide

CINCINNATI, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- An Ohio woman going through a divorce shot her son and daughter in the heart and then turned the gun on herself, a coroner said Wednesday.

Mary Ann Wittich of Cincinnati drugged Jacob, 10, and Sydney, 7, on Monday night, Dr. O'dell Owens, the Hamilton County coroner, told the Cincinnati Enquirer. On Tuesday morning, she shot her daughter first after drawing an "X" over her heart and then her son.

Lindsey Wittich, 20, an older child, found the bodies in the late afternoon and called 911.

"I just got home, and my mom and my brother and my sister are dead. They're laying on the floor, and there's blood all over them," she told the operator.

Mary Ann Wittich and her husband, John, ended their marriage in June after 24 years. The couple had four children, including two in their 20s, and shared custody of the two younger ones.
