PHIILADELPHIA, Pa., July 31 (UPI) -- A Philadelphia teen arrested after being spotted on the street with a slain 16-year-old's dirt bike was charged with murder Tuesday.
The break in the investigation into Luis Navarro's killing came in a tip from two men who saw Eric Smith and two friends wheeling the bicycle down the street, Fox Channel 29 reported. The men, suspicious because the bike was covered up, sought out a police officer and passed the information on.
Navarro was gunned down Saturday in Tacony Creek Park.
Police told NBC Channel 10 that Smith's mother had ordered him to get the bike out of the house.
"The mother of one of the people who was involved in this incident knew that the bike was in her house and told her son repeatedly, 'Get the bike out of the house. That bike belongs to that dead kid,'" Chief Inspector Joe Fox said.
Smith, 16, faces trial as an adult. Investigators questioned and released his friends.
