JERUSALEM, July 29 (UPI) -- The United States is committed to Israel maintaining its defense against Arab countries, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Sunday.
During its regular meeting, Olmert told his Cabinet the commitment is backed by a promise to increase U.S. aid to Israel by $30 million during the next decade, reported The Jerusalem Post.
Olmert said President George W. Bush made the commitment during their meeting last month in Washington.
Olmert also promised to shepherd a budget plan to improve the economic conditions of Holocaust survivors in Israel.
"There will be a (proposed) addition of millions of shekels to be allocated to Holocaust survivors," Olmert said, promising "there will not be any survivor who cannot live with dignity."
