MANGONIA PARK, Fla., July 28 (UPI) -- Police have charged a 14-year-old Florida boy with raping a 42-year-old woman in front of a crowd of onlookers that included his younger brother and sister.
The teen and his mother contend the victim was drunk and the sex consensual, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel said Saturday.
Police disputed that account.
"She was grabbed by these people and dragged across the parking lot and punched and thrown to the ground," sheriff's spokesman Paul Miller said. "This is not consensual. This is an aggressive, horrible crime."
State records show the alleged perpetrator has been arrested on drug, grand theft and robbery charges.
The boy's mother said he has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and did not take his medication on the night in question.
He was charged with sexual battery and robbery when she brought him to sheriff's detectives Thursday night.
In addition to the July 15 rape, the boy is accused of stealing his alleged victim's money and gold earrings.
He will be held in detention until prosecutors decide whether to charge him as an adult.
