Southern Czech Jewish cemetery vandalized

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, July 27 (UPI) -- Vandals desecrated a 19th-century Jewish cemetery at the Bohemian town of Pisek in the southern Czech Republic, Prague Radio said Friday.

Police in Prague, 60 miles north of Pisek, said 23 tombstones in the Jewish cemetery were vandalized and some were broken. One of the cemetery's walls has been the target of vandalism for the past two months.

Police said they had no immediate suspects in the incident.

The Jewish cemetery, dating to 1879, is situated on the outskirts of Pisek and is usually locked and unvisited, the radio said.
