NEW YORK, July 25 (UPI) -- The New York Police Department is being sued by a woman whose fiance was shot more than 50 times by officers the night before their wedding.
Sean Bell died last November when five police officers opened fire on Bell and two of his friends outside a strip club in Queens, where Bell was attending his bachelor party, CNN reported Wednesday.
A criminal case against three of the officers is under way in Queens Supreme Court. The civil lawsuit accuses all five officers, as well the police department, of negligence, recklessness and civil rights violations, CNN reported.
The civil suit was filed by Nicole Paultre Bell, who took her fiance's name after his death, and the two other men who were fired upon, said their lawyer Sanford Rubenstein.
