CHARLESTON, S.C., July 22 (UPI) -- U.S. Customs officials at South Carolina's Port of Charleston found nearly $29 million in cocaine hidden inside containers of mango puree last month.
Border protection officials said the discovery of 767 pounds of cocaine inside buckets of mango fruit concentrate was the result of shared information between officials in New Jersey and South Carolina, the Charleston (S.C.) Post and Courier reported Sunday.
U.S. officials also recognized an unidentified foreign government for its assistance in locating the illegal shipment.
Officials said the shipment's distribution destination was likely somewhere in Europe and not within the United States' borders.
The 348 packages containing the drugs were found inside the plastic pails after a series of X-rays of the packages turned up certain anomalies.
Officials told the newspaper the discovery at the Wando Welch Terminal officials had not yet led to any arrests.
