PARIS, July 21 (UPI) -- French police have reportedly arrested two men wanted for participating in the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.

Wenceslas Munyeshyaka, a Roman Catholic priest, and Laurent Bucyibaruta, an ex-civil servant, were being held in France on warrants issued in Tanzania last month, the BBC reported Saturday.

Munyeshyaka and Bucyibaruta face possible extradition to Tanzania to be tried before the United Nations-backed International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the BBC reported.

More than 800,000 people in Rwanda died in the 1994 massacre of Tutsis and moderate Hutus.

Munyeshyaka, 49, who was arrested in Gisors, is accused of killing three young Tutsis in his Holy Family Parish in Kigali and raping four young Tutsis women. Bucyibaruta, who was arrested near Troyes, is accused of inciting the public to commit genocide, the BBC reported.

Rwanda broke off diplomatic ties with France last year after accusing France of not doing enough to find and arrest suspects related to the genocide, which ended after 100 days when the Tutsi-led Rwandan Patriotic Front seized power.
