OAKLAND, Calif., July 18 (UPI) -- A judge in California ordered a trash hauler involved in a labor dispute to pick up all garbage in Oakland, Calif.
The company, Waste Management, locked out 500 union drivers more than two weeks ago. Since then, Oakland residents said, trash pickup has been spotty at best.
After a hearing Tuesday, Alameda County Superior Court Judge Richard Keller ordered Waste Management to fulfill its contractual obligations to Oakland, The San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Keller refused the city's request to order the company to end its lockout. But he said that Waste Management must provide all services, including recycling pickup.
Stuart Pivnick, an Oakland resident, said he plans to pay only part of his bill since nothing has been picked up from his house since the lockout began.
"I'm disgusted," he told the Chronicle. "The most irritating part is that a replacement worker came through my neighborhood last week but he got distracted and only did one side of the street."
