CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y., July 17 (UPI) -- There is sufficient evidence to try a 15-year-old alleged mastermind of a planned high school killing spree as an adult, New York prosecutors said.
Jeremy Scileppi, chief of the Suffolk County District Attorney's Major Crime Bureau on Long Island said the unidentified youth was under psychiatric evaluation, and his alleged co-conspirator, Michael McDonough, 17, could also face stiffer charges.
"This is one of the most serious things I've seen in my career as a prosecutor," Scileppi said. "The evidence against these two is getting better."
Scileppi said at a Monday bail hearing McDonough made a written, four-page confession outlining his role in the planned massacre of students and teachers at Connetquot High School, the New York Post reported.
The pair was arrested after a journal detailing the massacre plans was found July 6 in the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant, where both of the youths worked, Newsday reported.
Both have been charged with conspiracy to purchase guns and explosive powder.
