Chile: Explosive detonates outside embassy

SANTIAGO, Chile, July 16 (UPI) -- A small explosion was set off outside a Santiago, Chile, building housing the British and Israeli embassies, officials said Monday.

The explosion occurred just outside the doorway of the building and caused slight damage, El Mercurio reported Monday. No one was reportedly hurt in the blast.

No one has claimed responsibility for the explosion, though there has been some speculation that right-wing groups loyal to former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet may have been behind the blast.

Pinochet was arrested in London in 1998. The ex-strongman died in December 2006.
