LONDON, July 15 (UPI) -- The man who once held the title of world's most dangerous terrorist says it saddens him that today's terrorists plot to kill ordinary people.

Vladimir Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, known as Carlos the Jackal, murdered, bombed and kidnapped his way to infamy for two decades before his capture in 1994.

Sanchez, 57, in a telephone interview with the Times of London from a prison in northeast France, attacked what he called a lack of professionalism among terrorists, especially some al-Qaida cells, The Sunday Times reported.

The Venezuelan-born Sanchez is serving a life sentence for three murders in Paris in 1975 and goes on trial in January for four bomb attacks in France in 1982 and 1983 that killed 12 people and wounded more than 100.

Now overweight and diabetic, Sanchez last week laughed and showed no remorse when asked about his victims.

"When we had to eliminate them it was in a cold, simple way with the least pain possible," he said.
