LOUISVILLE, Ky., July 13 (UPI) -- The parents of a teenage girl whose feet were severed by a malfunctioning ride at a Kentucky theme park have filed a lawsuit.
In court papers filed in Jefferson Circuit Court, Randall and Monique Lasitter claim that Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom did not maintain the Superman Tower of Power properly, The Louisville Courier-Journal reported. In addition to unspecified money damages, they are seeking a court order to bar the theme park from dismantling the ride.
The Lasitters say a cable on the ride snapped, cutting off both their daughter's feet. Doctors at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville were able to reattach Kaitlyn Lasitter's right foot, but the left one suffered too much damage and could not be saved.
Kaitlyn Lasitter, 13, remains hospitalized.
State agencies are investigating the accident. A spokeswoman for the theme park said the company will decide what to do with the ride once the investigation is finished.
