Poll: Almost half in U.S. creationist
LOS ANGELES, July 13 (UPI) -- Being the former chairman of the powerful House Armed Services Committee hasn't helped Duncan Hunter in his quest for the GOP presidential nomination.
When it comes to name recognition, Hunter is way behind the party's top three front-runners, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Sen. John McCain of Arizona.
According to an article in the Los Angeles Times Friday, the 14-term congressman from California faces an uphill battle to catch up with his opponents.
At one campaign stop, the newspaper says someone in the crowd yelled to Hunter, "Go on 'The Daily Show!' We've never heard of you."
Besides name recognition, Hunter has raised only about $1.2 million so far.
He has only eight volunteers in New Hampshire and virtually no organization in Iowa.
Still, he's not giving up.
"All the issues I care about, that I've worked on my entire career, have come to the fore," Hunter says.
Those issues are tougher border security, strong defense and reviving America's industrial base.
